Valla 1936 is associated with the figure of Ondina Valla, an Italian athlete who achieved numerous victories in sprint, hurdle and jump competitions. She was only 20 years old when she participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and broke the world record in the 80-meter hurdles, thus becoming the first Italian woman to win an Olympic gold medal.
Nero di Troia is a strong grape variety, from which an elegant and assertive wine is made. Its intrinsic characteristics convey the grit of a woman who, despite many obstacles, left an indelible mark on the history of female athletics.
Valla 1936 is obtained from 100% Nero di Troia grapes grown on clayey limestone soil.
It ages on fine lees for 6 months and in bottle for 3 months.
The grape harvest takes place in late September/ early October.
Valla 1936 shows an impenetrable ruby red color. On the nose, it releases intense aromas of small black underbrush fruits, blueberry, black cherry, berries, with delicate hints of violet. The wine presents a fruity flavor, particularly of cherry, with a pronounced freshness on the palate. It is elegant and highly drinkable, making it a perfect complement to any meal.
We suggest this wine in combination with typical local dishes: orecchiette with cardoncelli mushrooms, fava bean and chicory soup, braciole al sugo (Meat rolls with tomato sauce), caciocavallo podolico cheese.
